ABOUT

A story of love, loss, growth, and gratitude.
Local Kine Tingz was created by my husband, Bryson, and me—Kirsten (Katie/KD)—in the midst of one of the hardest seasons of our lives. What began as a shared act of healing became something far greater than we ever imagined.
Our life together has always been a series of unfolding chapters. We met while on vacation, navigated long distance, built a life together, married, created content, established an LLC, self-published a book, adopted a puppy, purchased our first home, and learned—again and again—what it means to grow together. Through it all, creativity has been our constant.
Local Kine Tingz is rooted in that shared journey.

THE STORY
Local Kine Tingz was born in 2020 during the height of the pandemic. I was out of work, and Bryson and I were navigating the devastating loss of our child. In our grief, we turned toward creating—searching for something grounding, something healing, something meaningful.
That search led us to hand-pouring our very first upcycled Hawaiian Sun soy wax candles. What started quietly at home soon opened doors we never expected. A local small business believed in our work and placed a bulk order, and shortly after, our candles made their debut in a shop in Kaimukī. From there, Local Kine Tingz found its way into boutiques, plant shops, cafés, and restaurants across Hawaiʻi.
Every pour, every scent, every creation carried pieces of our hearts.
While the pain of loss never truly disappears, we found purpose in offering something gentle and intentional to others. During one of the darkest moments of our lives, light emerged—and for us, that light came through candle-making.
Over time, our offerings expanded to include handcrafted soy wax candles, Musoapbi™, shower steamers, bath bombs, and other artisanal self-care goods—each made with the same care and intention as the first.
P.S.
After years of unsuccessful attempts (natural and IUI), Kirsten underwent a D&C procedure this year (2024). Just as we were about to do our first IVF treatment, we found that Kirsten was already 4 weeks pregnant. We were blessed with our baby girl in 2025.♥

WELCOME
Local Kine Tingz is proudly rooted in Hawaiian and Filipino culture, created with love for community, land, and care.
What began as a shared dream between husband and wife has since entered a new season. Today, Local Kine Tingz is lovingly run by me as a mama-owned small business, shaped by motherhood and guided by gratitude for every chapter that came before.
Whether you’ve moved away from the islands and are longing for a piece of home, or you’ve simply fallen in love with the spirit of Hawaiʻi—we are honored to create for you. We believe in cultivating respect for the land and giving back where we can, trusting that when we nurture ʻāina, it sustains us in return.
Each item is made in small batches, with intention and care, treating every customer as ʻohana—pamilya.
